Desjardin, Louise Herring Awards

Capital Credit Union has earned first place award honors for the Desjardin Youth and Adult award categories, and second place for the Louise Herring Award.

The Desjardin Youth and Adult awards recognized efforts of the credit union in helping to address the problems associated with financial illiteracy. For the youth award, Capital Credit Union was recognized for volunteer work with North Dakota Jump$start Coalition’s Bismarck and Fargo Real World Camps. These give sixth graders across the state real life experience in budgeting, savings goal setting, needs vs. wants recognition and other skills. For the adult award, the credit union was recognized for the financial seminars the credit union holds such as the Capitol Seminar and a home buying seminar, as well as one-on-one financial counseling, particularly in the areas of credit score improvement and personal goal setting, such as buying a home.

The Louise Herring Award, which recognizes credit unions for “philosophy in action”—People Helping People, was awarded to Capital Credit Union for the PAL (Payday Alternative Loan) program, which successfully helps individuals avoid high fees and high interest rates typically offered by payday loan stores, as well as works to set them on a path of improved financial management.
