About Nicole Mikkelsen
Mikkelsen is the credit union’s vice president of human resources, a role she’s held since January 2016.

She started working for Capital Credit Union as a part-time teller while attending the University of Mary, pursuing a degree in business administration. After graduation, she transitioned into a full-time teller role and was quickly promoted to branch manager.

Mikkelsen joined the credit union’s human resources department in 2005 as human resources coordinator, a transition that allowed her to learn new skills while building on her past experience.

“I found what I was passionate about and where I could really have a positive impact,” shares Mikkelsen. “Plus, it turns out that having been a branch manager and worked on the front lines has been a huge help in my position today and how our department serves the rest of the organization.”

Mikkelsen earned the Senior Professional of Human Resources designation in 2011 and was promoted to human resources manager that same year.

Shortly before her promotion to vice president of human resources, Mikkelsen earned the Senior Certified Professional from the Society for Human Resources Management.

In addition to raising four sons with her husband, Mason, Mikkelsen serves on the board of directors for Southwest TrainND and the Central Dakota Human Resources Association, for which she is also board secretary; participates in the Bismarck-Mandan Young Professionals Network and ND Association for Talent Development; volunteers for the United Way Day of Caring, Great American Bike Race, and Junior Achievement; and donates blood at United Blood Services.

About Loren Tollefson
Tollefson serves as branch manager for the credit union’s North and Sunrise branches in Bismarck, a role he’s held since February 2015.

He started working for Capital Credit Union in 2012 as a financial services representative, bringing seven years of previous lending experience from a large financial institution in Phoenix, Ariz.

Tollefson returned to Bismarck to be closer to family, but recognizes without taking the risk of moving – and later, returning to his home state – he wouldn’t have learned valuable career lessons.

“It is important to always give 110 percent and be looking for the next opportunity for growth,” shares Tollefson. “I’ve also learned the importance of having a mentor, and I encourage others to find mentors in their field through networking.”

Tollefson has an associate degree from Bismarck State College and bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota.

In addition to raising a family of three with his wife, Andrea, Tollefson serves on the credit union’s public relations team, which strives to demonstrate the credit union’s commitment to social responsibility and active community participation. Through his involvement on this team, Tollefson has volunteered at various local events, including the Bismarck Marathon and Buddy Walk as well as presented at several financial education seminars throughout the community. He is also a volunteer youth basketball coach at the YMCA and participates in the Great American Bike Race every year.
