Russian Data Breach advisory

You may be aware of recent reports of the “Russian Data Breach”—a Russian crime ring that was revealed to have acquired 1.2 billion usernames and passwords from individuals and companies worldwide.

Capital Credit Union recommends the following:

  • If you already had an 8-character or larger password and, therefore, did not need to change it when we announced the longer password requirement for July, we recommend you change your password at this time.
  • For all members, regardless if you did just recently change your password to meet the new length requirement, please keep in mind the following:
    1. Remember, our password minimum requirement is 8 characters. Using a password longer than that, however, further enhances your security.
    2. We recommend using complex passwords comprised of upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters.
    3. Use a different password for each online entity where you have an account (CU Online, eBay, Amazon, etc.). You increase the risk of account breach if you use the same password across multiple entities.
